The book is a narrative of the life of Dan Millman and is done well. I liked the thought provoking element of this book. It seems to me that the author is trying to compel the reader to think through his or her own life and to come to certain spiritual conclusions. There are times that I got lost with what the author was trying to convey but overall, I will rate this book as a good read if one wants to think through their own life's journey and how they have dealt with it.
To the outside world, Socrates looked like a guy working at the gas station. Dan Millman was a top gymnast on his way to the Olympics. Still, something wasn't quite right. As fate would have it, that very night Dan met a man he came to call Socrates. How he learned to quiet his mind. Something was missing.
Way of the Peaceful Warrior is the story of how Dan Millman's life was changed. Life seemed pretty good. In reality, he was a mentor, a warrior, a teacher. Then, one night, Dan stopped at the local gas station for late night snacks. They say that when the student is ready, a teacher will appear. How he learned to take care of his body.
How he learned to trust and just let go.
The book is a good read and has good life lessons entwined in an entertaining story. Although I believe the protagonist was selfish throughout the story, the idea of better living, feeling and thinking came through.
Thats all I can say. Thank you, Dan Millman. I'm not sure why so many people are rating it high or what they liked in it.
Its ok for an 8 year old. It transformed me into a being who will never trust the title of a book again." (lol)With that I also support another reviewer's comment that Nathaniel Branden is much better, if you're looking for realistic, non-gas station super man stuff. This really tells me how bad a highly reviewed item can actually be. Its a childish stupid book.
Repeating some other 1-star reviews:- "This is real drivel, that might be considered precocious if written by a 12-year old"- "This book is a dip in a kiddy pool, let's try for the deep end."- "Way of the Peaceful Warrior changed me. Its naive and fantasy like. I dont know but I cant be inspired about personal growth by some ghostly figure at a gas station that teleports itself from here to there in 0.5 seconds.
I will pay more attention to negative reviews now. If the book was useful for any of you, more power to you.
This is one of the classics of mysticism. Trash. I read through most of it once YEARS ago, before I knew myself, and thought it was cool, like all the other brainwashed drones who would give it good reviews. Driveling, socialist, collectivist nonsense. The sort of thing that seeks to poison the minds of the impressionable and destroy capitalism, independence, competitive drive, and freedom from the slavery of altruism. Not because I actually thought it was cool, but because I thought I was SUPPOSED to think it was cool.I came across it again years later, and saw it for the spirit-killing garbage it is. And still read through it all.
